Geospatial development
Orbica always starts the conversation with data, and the common denominator of all data is location. Your data is a gold mine and we can help you extract its hidden value by crafting unique solutions that add business value.

Geospatial development Case Study 1

What do 1 million+ road crashes look like?

That’s a question we can answer, since New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) tasked Catalyst and Orbica to develop a web-hosted tool that could query those crashes at speed. That’s a LOT of data!

So we put our geospatial smarts to the job. What’s the best way to visualise multiple crashes and build queries? Why, a map of course!

We used opensource platforms (while integrating NZTA’s SQL database) to develop an interactive, user-friendly web-hosted tool with features and functionality that users describe as “ground-breaking.”

NZTA had made CAS available to roading/engineering industry to help make New Zealand’s roads safer.

Geospatial development Case Study 1

Project:
Crash Analysis System (CAS)
-
Client:
Catalyst (for NZTA)
-
Objective:
To create a web-hosted tool that could query more than a million crash records at speed
-
Achievement:
The challenge presented by NZTA was to build a CAS with new functionality and features, that used new technology, was user-friendly and could manage more than a million crash records at speed on a web-hosted platform. Orbica and Catalyst worked together to develop the new CAS using opensource technology (while integrating NZTA’s SQL database). It’s interactive, user-friendly, based on map-view, and fully meets the brief. It is now being used by roading/engineering industry to make New Zealand’s roads safer.
